Our ingredients

To make our food, 10.6 kg of meat is dried for a 12 kg bag so that it can be processed better in our dry food. With the right proportion of vegetables, fruits and herbs, Yourdog uses meat from free-raised and grass-fed buffalo. Buffalo meat is known for its creamy, fresh taste and strong color and is rich in vitamins and minerals. This tender meat has lower cholesterol and fat content and fewer calories, making it very beneficial for your health.

Vegetables

Herbs

The healthy herbs that enrich our food come from plants grown in Europe. The use of herbs, roots, flowers, plants, seaweed, etc. has a tradition that goes back thousands of years. These ingredients support the natural processes in the dog's body, such as digestion. Every ingredient we add to our dog food has been carefully selected for its beneficial properties. The ingredients are highlighted depending on the size of the dog, the breed or the breed group. Breed-specific ailments can be alleviated through the use of herbs, roots, flowers and plants.

Shikoku-specific vegetables, herbs and fruits

We have carefully researched the Shikoku's breed characteristics. We also researched the characteristics of the FCI breed section and the FCI breed group to which the Shikoku belongs. From these studies, ingredients that have an optimal effect on the health and well-being of Shikoku were selected in consultation with leading Dutch nutritionists.

Nettle

The stinging nettle is a genus of plants that includes the large nettle and the small nettle in the Netherlands and Belgium. Nettle is known for its cleansing and blood-purifying effects. According to various sources, nettle kills bacteria and is therefore very suitable for infectious diseases. The leaves are also useful for diarrhea or other digestive disorders.

The nettle supports the function of the liver and kidneys by stimulating the breakdown of waste products. It also supports the dog's bladder and hair growth.

Nettle also contains silica or silicon. It is a building material that is, among other things, part of the connective tissue of bones, tendons, ligaments, skin, hair and nails. Silicon supports the natural production of skin (cells) and ensures the maintenance of healthy skin.

At Yourdog, we add nettle to our dog food because it can make a positive contribution to preventing breed-specific problems with the dog's coat, skin and bones, as well as to preventing digestive and/or bladder problems.

Chondroitin

Chondroitin occurs naturally in the dog's body and is one of the most important components of cartilage tissue.

In dogs, chondroitin is able to attract and bind moisture, which should result in a spongy suspension of the cartilage.

Chondroitin improves the suppleness of cartilage and also has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. It also stimulates the production of the building blocks that ensure healthy cartilage.

When chondroitin is administered in combination with glucosamine, it supports and enhances the effects of glucosamine. It is often given as a dietary supplement for people and animals suffering from osteoarthritis.

Spirulina

Spirulina is a dietary supplement with exceptionally high nutritional value, obtained from blue-green algae found in tropical and subtropical regions. It belongs to the microalgae family. Did you know that spirulina can be grown in space and contains 60-70% protein?

It is rich in vitamins including B12, minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium and potassium, and all essential amino acids. Spirulina can contribute to the health and well-being of dogs in general. Additionally, it can help support the immune system and promote healthy skin and a shiny coat. The algae also have a detoxifying effect and promote digestion.

Puppy, adult or senior?

So that you can make the right choice between our Shikoku foods, please note the following information. If your Shikoku is younger than 11 months, choose the Puppy variant. For a Shikoku older than 7 years, we recommend the Yourdog Shikoku senior. If your dog is older than 11 months and younger than 7 years, you can choose the Adult version.

Advice on switching

If you are switching to Yourdog from another food brand, we recommend you follow the steps below. As a first step, feed 25% Yourdog and 75% old dog food. The dog can get used to it for two days. Then feed 50% Yourdog and 50% of the old food. It is important to re-acclimate the dog over two or three days. Then mix 75% Yourdog and 25% old dog food. The dog is now almost completely in Yourdog. Do this for 2 days. Afterwards, you can 100% Yourdog the food is exposed to oxygen, moisture and light, which can affect its shelf life and taste. Therefore, it is important to store the food properly after opening the bag, preferably in an airtight storage box or barrel in a dry, cool and dark place. It is best not to put the food into the tub individually, but to put it in the tub in the entire bag, closing it as tightly as possible.
